Mantra yoga uses mantras to awaken the self and to deepen the meditative aspects of a physical yoga practice. Through mantra we engage the mind by focusing on sound, on duration, and on the number of repetitions — three things that give a wandering mind something precise to hold.
Recitation shows us how we can substantially modify the direction and state of our lives by making use of sound. It is the most accessible of the practices we teach: it asks nothing of your joints and can be done anywhere.
Live online sessions run daily from 10:00 to 11:00 AM IST, and at 5:30 PM EST for students in the United States. Offline sessions are taught in person at our studio in Abids, Hyderabad. You can use either, or both.
No. Pronunciation is taught syllable by syllable, and meaning is explained as you go. Most students start with one short mantra and build from there.
Mantra comes out of a religious tradition and we teach it with that respect, but the practice itself works on attention and sound. Students of every background practise it.
It is one of the practices that transfers best to online teaching, since the work is entirely in listening and repeating.
