Yoga for Kids

Yoga for kids is built on play rather than discipline — a form of modern yoga designed for children.

The practice

What yoga for kids is

Yoga for children includes asanas that increase strength, flexibility and co-ordination, and it develops awareness of body, mind and breath along the way. It helps arrest a child’s wandering mind, which is usually what parents notice first.

The practice brings the marvellous inner light that all children have to the surface. Sessions are shorter and more animated than an adult class, with postures introduced through their shapes and names rather than their Sanskrit anatomy.

What a yoga for kids class includes

  • Animal and shape postures that build strength and co-ordination without feeling like exercise
  • Simple breathing games that teach a child to notice and slow the breath
  • Balance work, which is where the concentration quietly comes from
  • Short guided relaxation at the end, scaled to a child’s attention span
  • Stories and sound, so the hour holds their interest
Why practise

What yoga for kids is good for

  • Strength, flexibility and co-ordination
  • Awareness of body, mind and breath
  • A steadier, less wandering mind — useful well beyond the mat
  • Confidence in how they move

Questions

Yoga for Kids FAQs

What age is yoga for kids suitable for?

Children old enough to follow simple instructions and enjoy moving, roughly from primary school age upward. Tell us your child’s age when you book and we will place them accordingly.

Does my child need to be flexible?

No. Children are generally flexible already; the work is about strength, co-ordination and attention rather than reaching further.

Can a parent join the yoga for kids class?

Often that helps, particularly online and particularly at the start. Let us know and we will plan the session for both of you.
