Ayurvedic and Satwik Food

Ayurvedic and satwik food is decided by your constitution rather than by a general rule about what is healthy.

The practice

What Ayurvedic and satwik food is

Ayurveda holds that three energies — Vata, Pitta and Kapha — circulate in the body and govern physiological activity, and that their differing proportions determine individual temperament and physical constitution.

Ayurvedic, satwik and yogic cooking is a rational way to prepare food with the dietary need of the individual in mind, based on those different body types. The food is simple, balanced and nutritious, and the Ayurvedic diet has three main aims: healing, prevention and health care.

What a satwik food consultation includes

  • Which foods suit your constitution and which quietly work against it
  • The six tastes, and how to get all of them into an ordinary day
  • Satwik cooking method — simple, balanced, nutritious, prepared with attention
  • Eating by the seasons, and what changes between a Hyderabad summer and winter
  • Timing and quantity, which matter as much as ingredients in Ayurveda

Questions

Ayurvedic and Satwik Food FAQs

Does satwik food mean becoming vegetarian?

Satwik cooking is vegetarian by tradition. What we give you is guidance for your constitution; how far you take it is your decision and we will work with where you are.

Is an Ayurvedic diet a weight loss diet?

No. Ayurveda’s three aims here are healing, prevention and health care. Changes in weight sometimes follow a settled digestion, but that is not what the guidance is built around.

Can satwik food guidance run alongside the yoga classes?

That is how it works best. Food and practice are read from the same constitution, and each holds the other up.
