Ayurveda holds that three energies — Vata, Pitta and Kapha — circulate in the body and govern physiological activity, and their proportions determine temperament and constitution.
Prakriti is the natural characteristic of an individual. It is responsible for the development of the three gunas — Sattva, Rajas and Tamas — and Ayurveda defines it as the mental and physical composition of a person.
It is the reason two people can hold the same posture for the same length of time and walk away with different results. A practice that settles a restless Vata constitution can leave a Kapha one heavy; one that suits Pitta in winter can overheat it in May. Reading your prakriti first is what lets the rest of the practice be useful.
Live online sessions run daily from 10:00 to 11:00 AM IST, and at 5:30 PM EST for students in the United States. Offline sessions are taught in person at our studio in Abids, Hyderabad. You can use either, or both.
Your prakriti is the mental and physical constitution you were born with, described in Ayurveda as your particular balance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It does not change over your life, though your current state can drift away from it.
